Greetings Fellow Techites of '79!!! I had to take a few days to reflect and take all of this in. I am still on a "high". (In the Lord, of course.) I had a marvelous time all weekend during the reunion. It was so good seeing all of you, and that you are doing well!!! The highlight of it all was to witness so many of you give glory to God for achieving your goals and accomplishments!!!! We really had "Chuch" on Sunday AM. Angie, you took me way back when you and Tangie used to direct the Taft Jr. High School Gospel Choir!! Keep that wonderful spirit!!! Quinton, you really preached!! You are right, it's not about building "our" kingdom, but the Lord's. He's the one who enabled us to accomplish our goals in the first place, so He should get all the Glory!!! Sandy, sorry I missed your dance. I know it was lovely and inspirational because I remember how you used to dance. I will gladly come to your church sometime to worship with you and Patrick, and see you dance. Donnella, James and the rest of the committee, you have done an outstanding job! Your hard work and sacrifice have really paid off! Words cannot express my gratitude. And, Marion, this is a wonderful website! May God continue to bless you and your work!! May God continue to watch over and bless all of you! Until we meet again. -Peace Pam

I concur with all that has been written. I couldn't have said it better. I must say each entry I read; I feel you! I crawled in my bed Sunday night after a nice hot bath and couldn't get up in time for work the next day. I had to call off duty. My supervisor was informed of the possibility on Friday. I had a wonderful weekend.

How about the "Class of 1979" packing out a cruise ship for a weekend for our "35th Class Reunion".

OK so it took me a week to get this post up, but what else can be said? Last weekend was the BOMB! We had an unbelievably good time. IF there is a way for us to keep in touch and have mini-reunions on a more frequent basis, I'm for it! Love to you all!

Wow!!!words cannot express the emotions and the blessings of the entire weekend. Whoever said that you cannot have fun and be saved..they were no where around any of the class of Tech 79! Seeing everyone was so nice the fellowship, the fun, the food was such a blessing. All I know is that God was all up and through the whole weekend! Not only did everyone look great it reminded me that God is truly the salt of the earth because when I looked how He has perserved us is even more of a blessing. I am so proud to be part of such a great group and community of folks! To the committee you all went above and beyond and put together a elegant and classy weekend. I read that a few of us had a few physical consequences like, hurt feet, sore throats from yelling and a few sore bones from the dancing and praising. But I would do it all again the exact same way. God Bless You All!

TIME STOOD STILL FOR A WEEKEND!

We are all going into our wonderful, mid life years. I traveled back in time to elementary school, junior high school and high school and there are not many times in your life that you can experience the feelings that I felt during the reunion weekend.

Some of my classmates I have known for well over 30 years. I attended John Burroughs and Woodridge elementary schools, Taft Junior High School and McKinley High School. During those years, I have based my life around those experiences and relationships, both positive and negative, but mostly positive. To see so many classmates and friends that made a difference in my life was remarkable.

It’s not everyday you get to go back and revisit so many fond memories. Every time I saw somebody that I grew up with, went to school with, it took me back to that time and place. I want to say HELLO to all my classmate and friends that I did not have a chance to chat with. I don’t know about any other class, but the Class of ‘79’ has a very special connection and I am very happy to be a part of it.

To the Class of ‘79’ Reunion Committee, from top to bottom, words cannot express or describe the lives you have touched by your hard work and dedication. To take on a challenge like this was not a easy task and to be as successful as you were had to come from the heart. It speaks about the character and strength of each and everyone of you. I want to personally say thanks for the memories. My wife and I totally enjoyed participating in the various events.

May God continually bless each and everyone of you.

GRATEFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can only believe that God favored the class of 1979.
He has kept us and has blessed us in a mighty fine way!

It began when we first entered McKinley, and the faculty members were bewildered and amazed with this enormous sophomore class. We stood out from the beginning. We came from various Jr. High Schools, but we quickly embraced one another and became one. We always stood out. We had the confidence of a mighty trainer warrior and was never afraid to compete with our then upper classman. We were bold from the beginning. This same boldness remains in each and everyone of us today. We always expected the best, because we always knew we were the best. To the committee, you captured the superlative greatness that we embodied. I want to thank you for the love, hard work and time that each of you selflessly gave. Much love to my maroon and gray brothers and sisters of the class of 1979.!!!!!!

Thanks and Blessings to the reunion committee!

30 years is a long time but I have been convinced in talking about the weekend (and the events leading up to it) that MTHS CO79 is simply special. That is why we have excelled in so many varying ways. Traveling from all over the city to become a family. We were the best in so many ways. Some schools had this and that but we had it all....Trainers trained well. There was and is something to behold... How we became great...How so many students and organizations excelled during school and alumni excelled after school. But life goes on ... so GOD Bless the administrators, teachers, classmates, and friends,... those who have checked in, those who have yet to check in, those who have reached their goals, those who will reach their goals, our families, and the community. WE ARE SPECIAL. Let's be proud and thankful.

My Techites have said all that needed to be said, so no need to repeat. During those 3 days, I was face to face with some I've known since kindergarten!!!!! 30-35 years of friendships.
Beautiful is the only word to describe it.

LET'S DO IT AGAIN!

My dear "Class of '79", It's around homecoming time, and I want you to know that you all are in my thoughts around this time. I was hoping to make it back for the celebration but unfortunately, I'm not able to make it. I would like to acknowledge the pride I feel in being a member of such a wonderful group of people: "The McKinley Tech Class of 1979". The collective spirit of the group assembled for the reunion was a wonderful thing to experience. It reminded me why I enjoyed my time at tech so much. The thirty years between now and then have been full of varied stories and winding paths, all leading us to DC (or not, for those of you who didn't make it) for that "forever memorable reunion weekend". We are blessed to have survived that journey, and I, for one, am proud of who we all have become. Enjoy the activities this weekend and think about a brother. On another note: Wayne Linsey - A Song Without Words"A Song Without Words" is now available on iTunes. Visit the site & give a listen or even purchase a copy, if you like. The physical CD's will soon be available at "CD Baby" & "Amazon.com". I would appreciate it, if you would help me spread the word by telling all your friends and family about the project. I'm going to need all the help I can get to make this thing happen so, thanks in advance. Also, visit my website here and be among the first to join my FaceBook fan page. Anyway, thanks for letting me be part of your lives. Wayne "Ziggy" Linsey Mr. McKinley 1979

It was good to see everyone again.I enjoyed the school tour and the game. The school is simply beautiful. I couldn't get over the fact that they use elevators. Unfortunately the students seem to lack some school spirit.

Charmaine Thrower (Franklin)

Maria -

You are being so diplomatic ... what school spirit? I didn't see or hear much of any... There seemed to be more of us (alumni) than there were students!!! And most of them looked at the alumni as if we were crazy every time we joined in with a cheer or a chant !!!

One last comment ... someone please tell me again ... what was the purpose of the ladies in black accompanying the band? And why did anybody in leadership at Tech ever allow this???

Okay, okay ... My attitude about the school and what "spirit" means just officially confirms for me that I am old!!! Some things I just can't understand or tolerate!

Much Love Class of '79 ...

We WERE, ARE AND FOREVER WILL BE ... ALL OF THAT ... past, present and future!!!

Charmaine,

You are absolutely correct-except for the part about being old. School 'SPIRIT' is the same as it was when we, our parents and grand-parents were in school. The current Tech student body, as well as those your graduated the year before do not have it. Even my daughter, who attended Tech for 2 years after it re-opened and niece questioned the lack of spirit.

As for the young ladies in the black, we were told that those are the band dancers. I agree the administration should not have allowed the display, but the parents should have voice some displeasure also.

Charmaine/Monica I would like to agree with your comments. Back in the day we did not understand what our parents/teachers and other role models were trying to teach us; I realize now that we were being taught how to be respectful of ourselves and others. That is not what is being taught now. (Can you believe 30 years later) Times have not changed; people have. Prayer can change all things.

Hello All-

The homecoming event I thought was great for me and my youngin it gave me the opportunity to show my 7 year older that this is where mommy went to school he and I was very excited, I forgot he was with me in trip city and some of us got to talking about what use to go on in trip city (lets keep it real, what I was doing) he was all ears he question me that whole day and Sunday to tell him my stories in trip city (Ha Ha I'm still sorting the story) I couldn't believe I still remember where my old locker was some things just won't change, I enjoyed the game because we brought the flavor back to McKinley just as we did in the 70"s the kids of today didn't understand us and probably never will, I just thank God on a constance basis for allowing me to grow up in the era we did, and I'm doing my best to filter it down to my sons.

Oh by the way my youngin enjoyed the cheerleaders he was sitting on the rale of the bleachers had front row seat just loving every minute I didn't realize it until we got home and he told my middle son and nephew all about the cheerleaders!

I would like to wish the Class of 1979 and their families the Happiest of Holidays, if God is willing, we will see each other in 2010, Peace and Joy to all.

Your classmate and friend for life
Pam

Hey Class of '79.....

Each New Year I realize how much I am THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for...... This New Year I can add that I am blessed to have reunited w/the Tech Class of '79. The memories, the friendships, the fellowship is so rewarding realizing what we've experienced over the last 30 years and what this generation is experiencing today.

I heard a definition for "prosperous" in 2009 that I want to share. If we have food, clothing and shelter... anything above that --- WE ARE PROSPEROUS!!! (Just a thought).

Wishing you ALL a BLESSED & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!!!

WES

Hey fellow techites,

I am yet another to revist the website after over a year.  My heartfelt condolences to all that have lost loved ones.  It happened to me in Dec 2007 with my Mom and if I can offer any encouraging words, its true  that they never leave you.  I always felt that was a bit of a cliche when people said that, but it's true.  I spent my entire life living together with my mother and we had the closest relationship imaginable.  I had no siblings or children...just Mom and surprisingly her spirit is so strong that as much as I miss her, I feel that she's right here with me.

My kidney transplant took place June 1, 2010 and everything is going very well.  I was part of one the largest kidney paired exchanges in history.  I thank you all for your prayers and good wishes and hope to celebrate my 50th with all of you.  God is good, we've reached half a century.....HOW OLD ARE WE?  Class of 79 makes 50 look GOOOOOOOD!!

Shout-outs to all the classmates, family and friends who joined us at the Stonefish Grill last night for our 50th Birthday Celebration!

We THANK YOU for helping to make our celebration another memorable moment!!!  We had a birthday party y'all ... balloons, party hats, noise makers, table and wall decorations, gift give-a-ways, great food (dinner not just refreshments), birthday cake, music and dancing galore!!!  (Thanks Anthony Rucker and the X-Factor Band!)

We were especially pleased to see so many brand new faces ... first timers who had not been able to attend the 30th Reunion or any subsequent events!!!

As the DJ stated, "The Class of '79 has STILL got it going on..."

Sincerely,

The Class of '79 Reunion Committee!

Holler at me so I know how my beautiful city is doing. Peace and much Love flow your way.
