Tumie Hurd III

Hello McKinley Tech Class of 1979,
I don't have many memories from my time at Tech, and for some odd reason, I didn't take a photograph for the year book. However, reading your stories has been a wonderful treat and helps to repaint for me a visual image of what it was like to attend McKinley during that time.

Admittedly, although I have been in the technology field since high school - I got a really good break - I am still amazed at what can be accomplished. This Web site and other social networking sites can not only reconnect old acquaints, but allow people to look into a small window of the lives of those you don’t know well . Actually, just a few years ago, it would not have been possible to easily share photographs, videos, and bits of personal history with others. I am grateful to be alive during this time and I believe the best is yet to come for all us.

As I was reading the Classmate Profiles and reconnecting with old friends, I realized that some of us are connected all the way back to elementary school. I would like to propose a possible photo opt of all of the folks who span back to Junior High, and even further back, to elementary school. Again, not a big deal, but probably would be kind of cool to capture during the 30 year high school reunion celebration.

Marion - I don't believe we've met, but I am proud of what you have accomplished in developing this Web site. Congratulations!

Thanks to all for taking the time to read my comments and I too look forward to seeing you in August.

Sheila -- You are absolutely correct in what you say... The movie "Paying It Forward" touched me like no other, and that is what God expects all of us to do -- bless others just like he continues to bless us! He did not give us all of these opportunities and experiences for us to keep it to ourselves!

Congratulations Tracye and may God forever bless the donor who stepped forward! I pray that it is a "match made in Heaven!"

Tumie -- guess what... the planning committee has already had that discussion... Stay Tuned... :)

However, I know that the greater majority of the Class of '79 came from Langley and Taft Junior High Schools. But if you entered McKinley from another school, please share that info!

Looking forward to seeing you at Meet and Greet II on tomorrow or the Prayer Breakfast on next Saturday!

Much Love Class of '79!

Good evening! It's the day after Meet and Greet II. I had a good time and enjoyed talking to everyone I could get to. Congratulations Planning Committee for all your ongoing hard work. It was nice to get out and have some time with good people when usually, I'm working. I pray you have continued success with the Prayer Breakfast and other future planned functions.
All the best!

Hi Charmaine,

There is a small group that came from Hine Junior High School. There were five that I know of, but there may be more.

The Planning Committee is sincerely grateful to the Class of 79 and others (from 77, 78, 80, 81 and 86) who joined us for "Meet and Greet II at Willy K's" on Saturday night!

We had a good turnout, good food, good fun, good music and great fellowship! At times, the dance floor was much too small...

We especially want to extend a special "thank you" to all who took the time to not only come out, but who also paid the registration fees for our August Reunion Extravaganza! We are believing that it will be a weekend to remember! :-)

Please help the planning committee to find those 468 remaining classmates who have not registered on this site yet. :o)

Looking forward to our next event... The Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, June 20, at 9:30 a.m.

Hope to see you there!

I am looking forward to attending some of the planned events leading up to the official events in August. It is wonderful to have an opportunity to reunit with the Class of 1979. The excitement is kicking in and being able to communicate on this website is great. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication of those who have made this possible. All of you are wonderful!

Thanks

Hello Everyone

Oh how I looked forward to seeing may of you at the Prayer Breakfast on Saturday morning, but due to illiness, I was unable to attend. I am sure no one wants the flu, so, it was best for me to stay away. Anyway, my prayers were with you and are still today, praying for anothr opportunity to see old friends and classmates. You know the old saying, "Sooner or later, I will get there", so until then, be safe and be blessed.

Hello All who attended the Prayer Breakfast on Saturday. It was an uplifting event. Jesus was in the mist of everything said and done on that day. Thank you Donald and Wanda for sponsoring this event. Willie, thank you so much for your testimony. God is good always. Rochelle, "You Go Girl". Your song truly touched my heart. Those who missed it, missed something special.

Hello All,

I am so sorry I was unable to attend the Meet and Greet II and the Prayer Breakfast. However, I am currently recovering from a hip replacement operation I had on June 1, 2009. Praise be to God, I am coming along very well. He is so amazing and so loving that he made it possible for me to get the surgery early, which will allow me time to heal and make the reunion events in August! As a matter of fact, I have faith that if there are other events prior to the reunion, I'll be there! Hope everyone enjoyed the activities and I look forward to seeing all of you soon.

God Bless!

Mr. Thomas Graham (Social Studies Teacher)

Dear McKinley Tech Class of '79;

I attended the 30th year reunion of the class of '79. I had the ball of my life. I want to thank, first of all, Marion Woodfolk Simmons for setting up a beautiful website - one that is easy to navigate and one that "tells the story." It was wonderful seeing such people as Sheila Lyles, my first love; Jovonne Jones, Jouene Jones, Reggie Bradshaw, Wayne Lindsey, Warren Head, the beautiful Charmaine Thrower and others that I just can't name. Everything was done in such wonderful taste! Again, thanks for inviting me.

Denise Powers (Thomas)

I had such a great time at our 30 year reunion events. The entire weekend was wonderful and I didn't want it to end ...but all good things must come to an end. This does not mean that the renewed friendships has to cease. Because of this site we can all keep in touch with one another and stay in contact. The class of 79 is off the hook and I am so proud to be apart of this class. Mckinley Tech Tech ....

Sheila Lyles

On Friday at the social, it took me a few minutes to 'collect' myself, as I was moved by seeing my friends, acquaintances, classmates after many years.

Words cannot begin to describe the gratitude that I have for the committee who certainly exhibited a labor of love for many months (giving of themselves and sacrificing many of their day-to-day activities) to put together and pull off the MOST INCREDIBLE WEEKEND -- one that each of us will cherish for the rest of our lives (as we are all 'on the back 9 - for you golfers).

Thanks to all of you who played a part in this spectacular event.

I would like to see the class of '79 develop a scholarship fund -- we can do all things!!

Thanks to Mr. Graham who attended after having eye surgery. We wish you God's speed in your recover.
(And eye surgery or not, you still were able to see your 'favorite' student) -- ME!! (lol)

Thanks for the attendance of the gorgious Annie Harding -- still a Diva after all these years!! Go Annie.

Thanks to Athel Q. Liggins for attending as well.

Dr. Steele is still 'the deal' and going strong with his hands still molding minds of the current generation of students at Northwestern High School -- you go!!

Coach Mayo is still going strong as well!

Thanks to all of our teachers for having your arms around us and for helping to shape our lives.

Each of us has been 'touched' by you and we are standing today as a result of you and I am eternally grateful for you!

And last, but not least, thanks McKinley Tech Class of '79 because if each of us hadn't come, it would not have come to pass.

What an incredible time we had and I certainly look forward to seeing many of you in the weeks/months/years to come. I hope this website will remain.

I want to appeal to each of you to consider giving the gift of life. Our classmate, Tracye Johnson is in great need of a kidney. If it's within you, consider donating.

Peace and Blessings to you and your families.
