As a music major at McKinley, who would not remember Mr. Peter Dexter Ford. So many wonderful memories of him and even years later after leaving McKinley, I say Mr. Ford doing what he loved best. We was a trumpet player at the Warner for Pattie Labelle. I was there singing as a back up singer. He looked great. When I heard of his passing, I was sadden, but also thrilled to have been one of his students. Thank you Mr. Ford, for your love and support. You were definitely one of the good ones!
I remember coming to the school to audition for him. He looked at me when I said I played the drums. He asked me could I read music, I said yes, then he placed in front of me a sheet of music and told me to play it and I did. He smiled and said I will see you next year. My first year I made snare drum and was the only female on the snare drum line. I thank God for Mr. Ford, for giving me the opportunity and believing in me and also encouraging me to believe in myself. I miss you Mr. Ford!!!
Peter Ford touched the lives of many, especially the members of the Jazz and Marching Bands. I came to Tech as a music major on an out of area exemption. Mr Ford heard me as a freshman improvising at a football game and encouraged me to join the stage band. That was my introduction to Jazz...I will forever thank him for that....BTW I can't forget Ish-ka-bibble a name Mr Ford gave me based on 40-50"s character ... Gone but never forgotten.
Mr. Ford was one of the biggest reason why my years at Tech were so enjoyable. The stage band, Pep Band, & Marching bands would have not been at Tech had it not been for Mr. Ford. I will forever be greatful for you. Thanks for the memories. R.I.P.
Man, Mr. Ford, if it wasnt for this guy I would have been a vast memory of music. He played a very important part of my maturing and growing up. I came to Tech a wild and crazy guy that knew that I was the s*** when it came to the drums. PETE, I will always remember your personality and being a father figure to me, I will never never never forget u. You are with the greatest musician of all time, GOD, play on Mr. Ford.
