Hello Everyone -

I'm sad to inform you that we have lost another classmate.  Karen (Johnson) Hill transitioned this weekend according to a message posted on Facebook from her neice.  (If you don't remember Karen by name, please look at her profile on this site.)  We've asked her family to keep us updated regarding her arrangements.

Let's pray for Karen's family ... and for each other!

Tomorrow really is not promised, so please don't waste any more time ...  LIVE, LAUGH and LOVE like there is no tomorrow! heart

Good morning everyone,

I'm sorry to hear about Karen. We've known each other since elementary school at Crosby L. Noyes. We lost contact after Tech. But we reconnected when we both started working at a TSA facility in Gallery Square.

She was always very personable, very intelligent, and beautiful inside and out. I believe she was a Christian.

Nevertheless, my prayer of peace, and comfort goes out to her family, and many friends.

I'm sure she touched the lives in a positive way of everyone she met along the way.

Karen Johnson (Hill), I had to click on your picture the name I recall so well.  Mr. Riddle's class 10th grade as  tears rolled down my cheeks and a smile came over my face. I can recall your quiet but still voice, and laughter that class was funny with all you Karens (Geometry). R.I.P.

I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of Adrienne Adams-Baltimore.  Adrienne was a neighbor and a good friend of mine.  We all grew up on V ST. N..E. a.k.a (The Hill)..  She was always so sweet and kind.  I remember hearing of her coming down with a debilitating illness shortly after we graduated from high school and I was so devasted to learn that such a sweet and kind person like herself had become ill.  However, upon seeing her, you would never know that she was ill because she always kept a smile on her face and that joyful spirit about her.  My sincere condolences and prayers go out to her family during this time of bereavment.  Rest in Paradise my precious friend.

Marion Woodfork (Simmons)

On April 19, 2024, I retired from my 40-year career in software development. I am moving on to the next phase of my life by growing my company, Woodfork Genealogy LLC, and pursuing my passion for preserving family and community history.

Woodfork Genealogy LLC offers personal historian services that empower and assist ordinary people in preserving history by transforming their memories, photographs, and memorabilia into compelling local history books or memoirs.

Joyce Garrett, a retired District of Columbia public school music educator and choir director, was one of my clients.  I am happy to announce that her memoir "Excellence Without Excuses: A Music Teacher's Odyssey" is now available.

Garrett began her career as a music educator at Langley Junior High in 1966. She transferred to Eastern High School in 1972, where she was a music educator and choir director for over thirty years. The choir received worldwide recognition in 1988 when they won second place in an elite international music competition in Vienna, Austria.

Garrett used her passion for teaching and love of music to connect with her students, inspire and motivate them to dream beyond their immediate environment and transform their lives in ways they could never imagine.

Her memoir is a story of love, determination, perseverance, community support, and triumph. It will uplift and inspire you and restore your faith in humanity.

I am honored to have helped her tell her story.
