Dear Classmates -

Jamie Vicki Lee from the Class of 1980 notified us last night regarding the loss of another one of our classmates:  "Belinda Tibbs (Jenkins)" -- Jamie's message stated:

"With profound sadness, this is to inform the McKinley class of 1979 of the passing of classmate Belinda Tibbs Jenkins. Though Belinda and I didn't know each other at Tech, we were in-laws who became friends (her husband and my ex are cousins). We always got together during the family reunions in Rocky Mount, NC and the Super Bowl parties. She just had such a down to earth presence that could always put a smile on your face.

I am posting the link for her obituary from the Washington Post that appears in today's paper. Please keep her family in your prayers. Godspeed Belinda....with deepest sympathy from your fellow inlaw/Techite Class of 1980. 😪"

Belinda's obituary indicates that the services are today.  I wish we had received notification sooner so that some of us could have attended her service:

BELINDA JOY JENKINS

Entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. She is survived by her husband, Joe Jenkins; mother, Verlette R. Tibbs; two daughters, Kawaiba Tamanika Murphy and Kaisha Tanay Tibbs; son, K-Quan Tavon Tibbs; three grandchildren, Aria Gross, Deyani Hunter and Jehcari Carter; two sisters, Antoinette Cheeks and Alvonia Draughn; brother, Paul H. Tibbs and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Jenkins may be viewed at STEWART FUNERAL HOME, 4001 Benning Rd., NE on Wednesday, June 6 from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Interment Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.

IN MEMORY OF OUR 79 CLASSMATES

IF ONLY THEY COULD SAY HELLO

IF ONLY THEY COULD SAY HELLO WHAT A DAY IT WOULD BE FULL OF LAUGHTER, SO FULL OF FUN; SO MUCH TALKING INTO THE NIGHT IT WOULD RUN

REMEMBERING OUR HIGH SCHOOLS YEARS, STAYING CONNECTED THOUGH THE COLLEGE YEARS, BEING BRIDESMAIDS AND GROOMMEN’S IN OUR WEDDING YEARS, SHARING PICTURES OF OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN IN THESE YEARS

IF ONLY THEY COULD SAY HELLO

I KNOW TRIP CITY WOULD BE MENTION, MRS. BROWN AND DR. LIGGINS TOO,

AND HOW ABOUT TALKING ABOUT THAT OLD SPECIAL BOO

I KNOW YOU LEFT YOUR HEART WITH US THERE’S NO NEED TO CRY

IT IS SO HARD REALLY SAYING GOOD BYE

IF YOU CAN ONLY SLIP INTO THE CLASSROOM AND SAT IN YOUR FAVORITE SEAT

I IMAGE US SMILING THE CLASSROOM IS WHERE WE WOULD MEET

FROM LITTLE GIRLS AND LITTLE BOYS TO TEENAGERS AND NOW WOMEN AND MEN

WE FILLED ALL THE GRASP AND CLOSED THEM WITHIN, SO MEMORIES WE HOLD  ON TO NEVER FORGETTING OUR FRIENDS

IF ONLY THEY COULD SAY HELLO

40 YEARS WOULD BE NOTHING NO SADDNESS NO TEARS JUST LOVING ONE ANOTHER AND REMINSCING THROUGH THE YEARS

WHEN THE REUNION STARTS WITHOUT YOU, I KNOW YOU WANT US TO UNDERSTAND

THE PAIN AND SUFFERING THAT YOU SUFFERED GOD HAS TAKEN YOU BY HIS HAND

AND WHEN THE REUNION IS GOING STRONG WE WILL REMEMBER YOU AS WE

PARTY AND CARRY ON

PERHAPS THEIR TIME SEEMED ALL TOO BRIEF

BUT WE WILL NOT LENGTHEN IT NOW WITH GRIEF

GOD WE WON’T COMPLAIN, BUT REMEMBER EACH ONE OF THEM IN JESUS’ NAME

A FRIENDSHIP SHARED, A LAUGH, A KISS

YOU ALL ARE GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN

HOW CAN SUCH MEMORIES BE CAST ASIDE, YOUR WALKS; YOUR FASHION; YOUR SENSE OF STYLE; YOUR STRIDE; YOUR SWAG; YOUR SMILES; YOUR DAPPERNESS; YOUR CUTINESS; YOUR HANDSOMENESS; YOUR JOKING AROUND AND YOUR PRIDE THESE TRIATS CAN NEVER BE ERASED, WE WILL FOREVER MISS YOU OUR class of 79 CLASSMATES

IT WOULD MEAN SO MUCH

 IF ONLY THEY COULD SAY

IF ONLY THEY COULD SAY

IF ONLY THEY COULD SAY HELLO

RIP, RIP

Jovonne -

As I shared with you on Sunday during the Class of 79's Prayer and Praise Church Service ... your poem was excellent!  I am so proud of you for continuing to pursue those things that God has placed down inside of you!

Don't stop!  Use every gift that HE has given you!!!

OMG! I am so very heart broken to hear of the passing of Brenda (Frenchie) French. She actualy reached out to me on this very forum last July to see if I was planning on attending some of the class functions during the summer.  We talked about the good ole days and how much fun we used to have and we had planned on getting together to reminisce about the good ole days and celebrate our birthdays (which were a month apart).  Unfortunately, as usual, life got busy and we never got the chance to actually set a date and meet up and now I am sadden of an opportunity missed. She was always such a joy to be around and she was one of the craziest friends I had the pleasure of having in my life.  I can still hear here saying, "Hey Chick, What's happening?"  Rest in Paradise my beautiful friend, until the day we meet again! Gone too soon, but will never be forgotten!

Love you Chick!

Tina
