Obituary of Norma Jean Hood

Norma Jean Hood was born on December 25, 1960, in Washington, DC to the late John T. Hood, Jr. and Leartist K. Hood. On the morning of February 3, 2022, Norma transitioned from her Earthly Home to her Eternal Home.

Norma was a resident in the upper Northeast Community of North Michigan Park from birth through adulthood. She was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System, attending Bunker Hill Elementary School, Bertie Backus Jr. High School, and graduating from William McKinley Technical Senior High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and two Associate of Arts degrees in Accounting and Computer Programming, all from Strayer University.

During Norma’s senior year of High School, she was employed with the United States Department of Agriculture. She began full-time employment with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company as well as a part-time employee at the Providence Hospital Seaton House. Norma furthered her professional career at Lockheed Martin and Insight Global. She also was the Division Leader and head of Office Operations at Primerica Financial Services Company.

Norma’s parents instilled Christian principles and values in her and her younger brother, Anthony, at an early age. She was a life-long, faithful member of The Greater First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant Plains. She was a part of the Sunday School, the Baptist Training Union, and the Youth for Christ Choir. She also served for many years as the Treasurer of the Gospel Chorus, Vacation Bible School Teacher (Arts & Crafts), Scholarship Committee Ministry, and Chairperson of the Transportation Ministry.

Norma had a very outgoing personality and loved to interact and communicate with people. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Chapter Number 5 and Mecca Court No. 2, and Henry A. Dove Assembly No. 15 Order of the Golden Circle. She served as a Board Member of The Prince Hall Eastern Star Charitable Foundation. She was the Treasurer of The Friends of North Michigan Park Civic Association, Inc.

Norma loved children which made her heart truly happy. She nurtured and cared for her younger cousins, and neighbors’ kids as well. Norma had a very close and loving relationship with her brother, Anthony.

Norma leaves to cherish her precious memories, her devoted brother, Anthony (Carmelia); nieces, Ashley and Shanna; and great-nieces, Lauryn and Katelyn; numerous godchildren; and a host of other relatives; and many friends.
